In 2011, the Spanish industrial designer Alvaro Catalán Ocón was invited to Colombia for a workshop organised by the psychologist and activist Hélène Le Drogou to discuss the problem of plastic waste pollution in the Colombian Amazon. Faced with the growing devatation cause by plastic, Alvaro proposed “upcycling”. Thus the PET Lampproject came into being. PET Lamp combines Colombian weaving – an ancient local textile tradition – with plastic bottles made of PET, a cheap raw material available in large quantities. Behind the PET Lamp brand lies a humanitarian, community environmental project. A manufacturing workshop was established in the capital, Bogota, with the support of Coca Cola and the local body Artesenias of Colombia.
In parallel to this exhibition, Maâlem is also presenting a limited edition of the “Scarf Pompom” (vintage silk from India and pompoms from Thailand) by Luxembourg designer Anne-Marie Herckes.

For the 2014 edition of Design City, Mobilier Bonn has invited the Luxembourg design team Super-ette to come up with a new layout for one of its windows. Home + Work is a new presentation by the Homework studio and was conceived by the Swiss-based Slovenian designer Tomas Kral. It is a dual system for a work table that plays on the ubiquity of two worlds: home and office. This new archetype, which appeals to the eye and the mind with its playful and elegant functionality, has been a hit since 2013.
With his modern designs, Jan Kath (born 1972) is creating a completely new perspective on carpets. Guided by a bold approach in his work, Kath, originally from Bochum, combines classical elements of Oriental carpets with contemporary, minimalist design. In addition, Tapis Hertz is also showing photographs by Valerie Schiel. Mysterious landscapes between dream and reality, colourful vegetation, veiled caves …. The pictures of Valerie Schiel, invite you to land on a Terra Incognita made in Luxembourg.
