Designer Guido Wolff is researching since 2009 into the issue of communication in public spaces and is looking in detail at the greater difficulties for a conversation to start in public places between people who don’t known each other. In cooperation with the Zürich University of the Arts, and as part of his study entitled “Discussion Space”, he has developed and investigated methods which stimulate discussion in public spaces.
Chat Zone is an installation in public spaces which, by triggering reflective processes in passers-by, aims to provoke different reactions and generate communication. It demonstrates how design-relevant findings can be obtained through simple means and how easy it can be to take the initiative to start a discussion with a stranger.
